WASTE LAND BOARD.
Yesterday. The Waste Land Board met at noon yesterday, when a good deal of business was transacted. Present—-Mr Reid (in the chair), Messrs Duucan, Hughes, and i athgate. Messrs Connell and Hoodie’s application on behalf of Messrs. Findlay and Gapstick, that their clients might be included in the lease of land in North Molyneux district with Messrs MTLrlane and Martin, was sanctioned; while the application of the same firm on behalf of Messrs MT’arlane and Martin to have section 12, block .‘l, Kaitangata, included in the same lease, was declined, permission being granted to make a tramway thereon. The same firm asked for a decision in reference to Mr F. G. Poynter’s application to be declared the purchaser of the pre-emptive right on Run 140n, The Provincial Solicitor’s opinion on the case was read. It was to the effect that the payment of tho pur-chase-money within twelve months was an absolute condition of sale ; that a breach of that condition determined the right of the holder ; and according to tho principle laid down in the case of the Attorney-General v, Jones, the Board had no power to give relief against the provisions of tho statute. The Board declined the sale. On Mr W. Dormer’s application, his lea e of section 1, block 14, Mount Hyde district, was reduced from 80 to 50 acres. On the application of Messrs Cable and Drummond, it was resolved to sell section 13, block 15, Maungatua (150 acres), and section 4, block 4, Waipori (210 acres), by auction ; to be surveyed by the applicants—cost of survey to be added to the upset price, and to be returned in the event of their not being declared the purchasers. It was resolved that the islands on the CTutha River, applications to purchase and lease which had been made, should be sold by auction, after survey, in the usual way. A petition that that part of the Traquair Hundred, from the watershed of the Waipori to the Falls, be thrown into goldfields, was referred to the Government, The Warden's report on Messrs Watt and Parker’s objections to Mr Valentine’s application for section 1, block (i, Waipori, being
to the effect that the land was known to be auriferous, and not only that, but its sale would enable the holder to stop the prolongation of the water races and levy black man noon the miners, the Board declined the application. It was resolved to recommend the Government to refund the deposit and cost of survey to the applicant. The application of Mr Benjamin Bray to purchase fifty acres of Hawksbury Bush was declined; while those of Mr Jos. Wallis for a coal b aao of twenty acres at Switzers, and MrCalder for a saw-mill license at Waikawa, were granted on the usual terms.
