Per Taranaki, for Lyttelton—Mr and Mrs Menzies and family, Mias Tonks, Mr Kohn, Mr Forrest, and ten in the steerage. The barque Sea Gull for Hong Kong, with Chinese passengers, was to-day removed to the lower anchorage preparatory to sailing. On Monday last a number of whales were seen from the Heads. The boats by the whaling party went out and got near enough to lance one or two of them, but as they were of the species known as the Finback, the capture of which is generally attended with more trouble and risk, whilst the quantity of oil yielded is so much less than other whales, no further effort was made to effect their capture. . A brig, apparently bound to this port, was yesterday observed off the Heads. The same vessel was seen this morning about 20 miles to the northward ; her name had not been signalled at 2 p.m. to day. As the bng, Our Hope, is due from Western Australia, this may prove to have been the vessel seen. BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH. ARRIVED. Lyttelton, 17th hist., 9.30 a.m., Wellington from Dunedin. .
