Wallace, on her way to Oamaru, whilst off Observation Point Ibis morning, made a further trial of Mr Douglass’s patent boat lowering apparatus. At the time of the experiment the Wallace was going full speed, and the trial was, as before, highly satisfactory. Capt. Ghallis, of H.M.S. Rosario, who had previously witnessed the working of the apparatus on board H.M.S. Basilisk, whilst at anchor, was present, and expressed himself highly pleased with this further demonstration of the practical working of the apparatus. We are informed that the ship May Queen, on her last voyage to this port, had one of her boats fitted with the patent, and that the Marine Board at Adelaide have had a set of this useful invention forwarded to order, , The ship" Helios was yesterday placed in the Graving Dock for repairs, under the supervision of M r A. VUKinnon. The p.s. Geelong was yesterday received into the Floating Dock for the usual periodical overhaul.
