COLONIAL PRIZE FIRING.

[By Electric Telegraph.] (From our own Reporter.) The Annual Colonial Volunteer Competition for prizes, commenced to-day at Cashmere, near Christchurch. The shooting commenced at 9 o’clock, when the men were addressed by the Hon. W, Fox. The day was fine with a fresh puffy wiud from the north-west. The following are the scores of the prize takers for the Judging distance prizes:— First Match.—Judging distance. Conditions—at such distance not exceeding 600 yards, as may be appointed by the officer in command; five shots to be fired by each competitor who judges his own distance ; any position ; no trial shots. First prize, LlO ; second, L 8 ; third, L 6 ; fourth, L 5 ; fifth, L 3 ; sixth, L2. I'hilpotts, Pictou r 44443—19 Wales ■ - - 43244—17 Buchanan- - - .> 4.413 —17 Gulliver - - - 32344—16 Humphreys - - 42343-r-16 Blafch - - 33442—16 Taylor 15 Corrio 14 Wilson r - - • - 13 Henderson - - - - 13 M'Larcn ----- 12 Marshall 12 Muir 12 Key 11 Brown 11 Reid 11 M'Farland - - - - 11 Christie - - - - - 11 Dixon 10 Lean ..... 6 cavalry. First—Judge, Canterbury • 17 Second—Cummins, Wanganui - 16 Wales aud Buchanan tied at 17. In shooting off the former won. Gulliver, Humphreys, and Blatch tied at 16. In shooting off Gulliver and Humphreys tied four times in succession. Gulliver in the fifth firing scored a bull’s eye and Humphrey a centre.
