Malting barley is enquired for at 4s 6d. Provincial-grown potatoes may be quoted at L 4 : the price is unsettled owing to heavy shipments from Australia. Those from Australia are selling at L 3 if they are in good order: a large proportion of late shipments has been quite unfit for use. There is a quiet and steady trade being done in flour. Town buyers continue to purchase only in trade parcels. Good brands are offered at Ll2. Oatmeal, LI3; bran, L 3; pearl barley, Ll7; pollard, L 4; hay, L 3 19s; straw, L2 ss; chaff, L 3 10s. A. Mercer reports for the week ending March 30Retail prices—Fresh butter, in £lb. and lib. prints, best quality, Is per lb. ; second quality, lOd per lb. ; fresh batter in lumps, lOd per lb ; powdered and Silted butter, lOd per lb; salt butter, in kegs, 9d. Fresh butter continues plenful, and the demand is not equal to the supply. In the cheese market the p ices remain the same. Best quality is from 6d to 8d per lb; second quality, 6d per lb. Side and rolled bacon, 9d to 10d per lb. Colonial haras, Is per lb. Eggs are in great demand this week but scarce, on account of the holidays, and selling at Is 6d per dozen.
