THE WAKATIP ELECTION.
The following is the ;result of the polling !
The first column represents the polling at Queenstown, the second at Arrowtown, the third at dhotover, the fourth at Moke Creek, and the last at all other booths. Mr Hallenstein’s majority was 212. Order reigned throughout the proceedings. The election was secured upon the questions of national education, liberal land laws, and railways ; but the Chinese question exei - eised a very great influence. Seven hundred vote* were polled, representing all classes. At fhe declaration of the poll, Mr Macnssey was loudly cheered iu explanation j but his observations in reference to the Press were condemned. He attributed his defeat to taking his friends’ advice, and to local influences.
