MAYOR’S COURT.
This Day. (Before his Worship the Mayor and Mr J. Brown, J.P.) WHAT IS THE PROPER FARE ? David Ross, architect, was charged by David Auld, licensed cabman, with refusing to pay the proper fare. The facts were admitted. Mr Ross, with his family, got into the complainant’s cab at the old jetty, a couple of days ago, and was dr von to his residence at Heriot Row. Mr Ross then offered the cabman 2s Od as his fare, while he demanded 4s, which Mr Ross refused to give. It was stated by Mr Ross that the journey from the White Horse Hotel to his house could not have occupied more than ten minutes, while Auld said it could not be done in quarter of au hour. The Bench were of opinion that if the journey only took a quarter of an hour, the offer by Mr Ross was as much as the complainant was entitled to ; but as he was unable to swear to the exact time, he put himself out of Court. Case dismissed. OFFENCES AGAINST THE RYE-LAWS William Wynn and Alex Craig, for whom Mr Stewart appeared, were each fined 2s Gd for allowing cows to wander. Two cases against Win. Wynn and Henry Strong for driving cattle across footpaths were dismissed, because, by an unaccountable omission, the bye-law does not deal with such cases. George Harrington, John M'Lauchlan, and J. Smith, were each fined Is and cost for plying for hire off the cab stand. Charges preferred against W. Watson, D. Bethune. and J. Walsh were dismissed with a caution,
