(FROM GREVILLE’s TELEGRAM COMPANY, rectek’s agents.) Hokitika, February 27. The Rangitoto left Melbourne on the 21st and arrived lu re this morning. Passengers : Mr and Mrs Howard, Mr and Mrs Alraao, Miss Quinlan, Mrs Roberts and infant, Ruv W. Watkins, Messrs Chapman, George, Cottrell, Biddnlph, Slopps, Magill, and thirty in the steerage for all ports. Cargo : for Westland, 75 tons ; Nelson, 90 tons ; Wellington, (30 tons ; Lyttelton, 65 tons; Timaru, 17 toss ; Oamaru, 28 tons. Melbourne, Feb. 21st. The thanksgiving-day yesterday, ordered by the Government, in recognition of the recovery of the P.incc of Wales, was observed as a close holiday in the city and throughout the colony. There were services in all the churches. The City Corporation adopted an address of congratulation to her Majesty. There have been ministerial banquets at (Stawell and Araarat. For some reasons of misadventure or mismanagement the leading members of the Administration were not present. The representatives of the press were mistaken for ministers, and received all kudos in spite of attempts at explanation The trial of Captain Collard, for misdemeanour in losing the ship “ Sussex,” is to be conducted by the Attorney-General in person. Another fatality has occurred on the Hobson’s Bay Railway. It is apparently a case of suicide by a man whose name is unknown.
Sydney. The ilcctions are still proceeding. Another Minist.r—Mr Byrnes, Minister for Public Works—has been rejected. Some few Miuisterials are being elected. There is great excitement about the Tambaroora mines, hew companies arc being formed. iSews from Fiji by the Quickstep says the schooners luugdove and Coral, of Auckland, were seized by the Government —it is alleged for selling arms to the natives. The mail advices have given firmness to the markets. Adelaide, There are favorable reports from the telegraph construction party. Mr Todd arrived there and says he intends organising an express horse service immediately. LATEST. Melbourne. The supplementary mail Bangalore, passed the Uaugitoto at the heads, but would not wait to tranship her mails. Messrs Vogel and Webb arrived here on the 20th. Too rev Dr. Barsauti is removing to Sydney. The Groat Britain arrived this morning, sixty days out—all well; also the ships Star of Peace and British Peer. Launceston. Wheat, 4s Gel. It is said large orders for shipment for England have been received.
