EARLY CLOSING.
To the Editor. Sik,— In these days of agitation on this important question, it may not be out of place to attempt to give the ball a kic'c towards its destination. The whole success of the scheme lies with the general public, as one of whom I would say, “let us cordially respond to the request contained in the pub-
listed circular of the Association; let us adopt and .stick to the principle of making our purchases before six o’clock every evening, and before one o’clock p.m. on Saturdays.” If the public were to unanimously adopt this system, the shopkeeper would be bound to i lose, as it would not pay to keep open ; hence, that which now makes some of them keep op3ll to so late an hour after all others are shut (namely greed), would a :t in an exactly opposite direction, and they would likely be the first to close One of the Publi”.
