AUSTRALIAN NEWS.
The New South Wa’es House of Assembly is becoming proverbial for it= “ scenes.” The last, was occasioned by a dialogue between Mr Pavkea and Mr !>. Buchanan, the “Collins” of New South Wales. Mr Parkes told him he was nob content with serving liis country Irlmself, tmt “ clesirocl that every one connected with him by blood relation, ship should serve the country also,” by reC3iving billets, and that the Government “had succeeded in hooping the bait dangling before the lion, member’s voracious month, in order that he might u't acorn forget his allegiance, and run mad into the wild ranks of opposition. ■’ r i hose remarks were received with cheers Mid laughter by the House, to whom the object to them is an enfant terrible, and then ensued the following edifying colloquy : “ Air Buchanan.—They arc lies. “ Mr Parkes,—L-t the Treasurer come into the House, and he would challenge that hon. gentleman to contradict him. (Uries of Hear, hear.) . “Mr Buchanan.-—They are lies from beginning to end ; unmitigated lies. (Cries of chair, chair.) “Mr Parnell—Mr Speaker, I rise to order; I think you will have to give the hon. and learned member into the custody of the sergeant-at-arms. I beg to move that his words ho taken down. “ Mr Parkes.—lt would never do for the hon. and learned member to say tint what I have stated was true (Laughter and cheers.) He was not at all surprised at anything the hon. and learned member said. “Mr Buchanan.— I never robbed my creditors. (Cries of ‘Order’ and ‘Chair.’ “Mr Speaker. —I think I ought to interfere. The hon number for Mudgee. in making a general attack upon another hon. member, is transgressing the rules of Parliament; the hon. and b aimed member for East Sydney is also out of order.” Subsequently the TreaMi er entered the House and explained that appointee No. 2 who was “ merely on trial,” was put into a billet on the recommendation of other members of Parliament, and not of Mr Buchanan.
