THE VOLUNTEERS.
The Scotti-h Company fired the return match with the Greymouth Rangers this morning, at the Anderson’s l ay Range. The Grey men fired on the 3rd instant, and the local company were to have fired on the sth, hut were prevented by a downpour of rain that morning, and until to-day were unable to obtain the use of the targets. The conditions were the same as in the previous nia'cli—viz., ranges 200, 500, and 600 yards; Wimbledon (argots and Hythc position at the first range ; class targets and any position at the other ranges ; five shots at each, and ten men a side. ’She first match was won by the Scottish company hv 15 points ; to-day they were victorious by 10 points, the scopes biing—Scott sh, 405; Greymout'i, 395, The local company have every reason to ho proud of their victories, although they were bare ones, because the Grey men have hitherto enjoyed the reputation of being invinciblcs, having beaten every company who had previously fired against them —the Dunedin Artillery and No. I Company, both crack teams, among the number. The Clutha, Bruce, and Invercargill Companies fired a match a few days ago, the former being victors. The scores were— Bruce, 496 Clutha, 596; Invercargill, 529.
