The West Australian correspondent of the Argus writes as follows on Dec. 6 Governor Wpld arrived at the Vasse on the 5 th jnst., after lopg trip through the'southern districts by the sea coast, His Excellency was only accompanied during a part of his journey by an orderly and a native, and he would appear to have “ roughed it” iu thorough bushman style ; exploring large tracts of uninhabited and almost unknown country, pushing his way across rivers, over bogs, and through dense scrub, and living upon bush fare for many days. The good fortune of a well known Victorian squatting family has been proverbial. Their luck, however, has been better iu sheep than it is in ships—in land than in luggage. They have lately developed an ap itude for shipwreck, which would render them unacceptable fellow passengers, dangerous customers for the warii.e
insurance companies. One of them, with his wife, returned to Victoria by the Peninsular Company’s steamers; was a passenger by the Rangoon, and their personal be’ongings went under water off the Cadda Hock. Their heavy luggage and furniture were on board the Dnderlej', of the loss of which we had news iast mail. When the Sussex was reported off Cape Otway, said the lady, “ Well, something has reached us safely at last. ” But luck was against them still, and the last of their English purchases are now rolling somewhere in the surf near the Barwon Beads.
