IS dwts.; Ltar of the Bast, 104 tons, 227 ozs. 14 dwts. Both companies arc now in full working order, and have enough stone now on view to keep the machinery going for twelve months. Several of the other claims ate locking splejidid. LAWRESUfe’. January 26th. The weather to-day was again spjendjd, and about 2300 persons were present at the races. The following are the results of the several events : Flying Handicap.—Slander, 1 ; Lyndon, 2. Flying Fish was last. Time, I min. 51 sec. Tuapeka Jockey Club Handicap.—Backbiter, 1 ; Yatteriua, 2 ; Patch, 3. Five ran. Time, p jpin., 50 section. Hack Race,— Play bo, 1; Rufus, 2. Seven ran. , Publican’s Handicap. } ; Foretop, 2 ; Backbiter, 3. Maniototo was last. Consolation Race, Catapult, 1 ; iat* torina, 2, Salamander Sam was last.
