For the defence, it was pleaded that there was a set off larger in amount than the sum sought to be recovered, Mr Cook objected to the set off on the ground tljat jt was fop “unliquidated damages,” and the balance being admitted, judgment was given (or the plaintiff with costs Blackadder v. Young,—L9. Mr Howorth for the plaintiff. This was a claim for the amount of a dishonoured bill, in which the evidence for the defence had been taken at Queenstown. The case adjourned to Friday, 16th February, for production of the bill, the plaintiff not being in town. Fpster y. Lang. LI. The defendant denied owing the money, having given labor in considferatiqii of ‘the sum claimed. The set off was not proved, judgment for the plaiptiff for the sum claimed with costs. Crowley v. Moi'isou.—A (jlajm for five days’ wages at gs 4d a day, The plaintiff was engaged as butcher, No agreement was made, but he had been employed before at the rate of 30s per week and his board. Not liking the “tuckor”—to use his own words—he left on the Saturday night without giving notice. Judgment for the defendant. The defendant, in an impertinent tone, on being required to pay the hearing fee, said “I’ve got no money—now then,” Being reprimanded by the Magistrate, he repeated bis assertion, somewhat more humbly, and the defendant, who said he merely wished to establish the right of insisting upon proper notice being given by men leaving bis gmploy, paid the costs. , .
