WASTE LAND BOARD.
This Day. The Waste Laud Board met at noou today, Present—The Chief Commissioner of Waste Lands, Messrs Duncan, Hughes, and Reid. Blocks 14 to 21, Greytown, applied for by J. M‘Harry to be sold, were directed to be offered by auction at an upset price of LG per acre. Smith and Anderson gave notice of the intention of Mr Clarke to appeal to the Supreme Court against the decision of the Board on his application for 45,500 acres, and requested that a case in writing might be stated or settled by the Board pursuant to section 18 of the Otago Waste Lands Act, 1866. It was resolved that as soon as a case is laid before the Board, it will exercise its functions in terms of the 18th section, but that unless the purchase money is paid in terms of the 47th section, the application will be deemed -withdrawn, cancelled and void, and the deposit forfeited. Alexander Elliott’s application for a lease of run No. 441, Manipori District, was referred to the District Land Office for report-’ A request -vyas made by the District Lanp Officer at Invercargill, that the Board sHpqld reconsider its decision respecting the forfeiture of the deposit paid on Mr Aitkin’s pre-emptive right, the balance not having begp paid. The Board resolved that they had no power ; the terms of the Act pot having been complied with by the applicant. On the request of C. T. Marie, the lease prepared for Marie and Lafentaine was forfeited, and the ground directed to be roopmed for application. Messrs Stephens, Low, and Francis’s application to purchase sections, in their occupation at Naseby, w'as declined. The section applied for purchase by the Naseby Waterworks Company, was directed to be offered by auction at the next sale. Upset price, L 5. r Mr 11. Howa’rth’s application for lease of a jetty at Queenstown was?granted, annually renewable, for seven years at LI per annum. Thomas Hall’s application tp have sections § and 6, block 9, Otepopo, put fpr sale at 10s an acre was declined. Thomas Calcutt’s application to purchase fifty acres of land at Hawkesbury was considered. Xt was resolved to have it surveyed in 10-acre sections, and sold as land of special value, having been so long withheld from sale ; upset price to be L2 per acre. To be surveyed by the district surveyor.
