MINING INTELLIGENCE.
The Lawrence people are very sanguine about the prospect obtained at the new reef at Gabriel’s. It is said that the prospectors have refused a very liberal conditional offer for half of their claim, and propose to offer it to the public in scrip, retaining one-half themselves. We are informed that the platform at Canada Reef, fromi which the : Alexandra stone is filled into the trucks, and which has been in use for several months, without being once cleaned, was carefully swept after the stone from Gabriel’s was removed from it. The return from the battery is variously stated at from 32 to 39 dwts. Nine leases have already been taken up along the supposed course of the reef. The stone is mostly blue, highly ehrystallino, and very much resembling that obtained at Waipori O,P.Q. reef. At about 12 feet deeper than where the prospect was taken, the reef passes into the slate rock, which is also the bed rock at Waipori; and both reefs run nearly due North and South. A sale of one share in the Prospectors claim is reported. From Waitahuna we hear that several well defined reefs have been struck, and traced for some length, but that only on Higgin’s claim, has payable stone been found. At Table Hill all the claim-holders, except the Alexandra, who occupy 5 head at the batter, are prospecting. The Alexandra Company arc finding less water than they anticipated, and expect to be able to drive another level without erecting any pumping machinery. A sale of one-half share in this claim is reported at L 95. We hear of various parties prospecting for reefs and alluvial on the North Branch watershed, in spite of the recent decision of the Warden at Lawrence, in re polution of the water of that steam.
