Supreme Court.—The heaving of the case Hunter v. Will and others, was continued in the Supreme Court to clay. The |ilaintih"s case'hayipg been brought to a conclusion, Mr Barton intimated that in order to save time he would dispense with an opening statement, and proceeded to call witnesses for the defence. The case was not concluded when the Court rose.
Commercial Building Society.— The annual meeting of this Society was held in the lower room of the Athenaeum last evening. Mr Callendar occupied the chair ; and about forty shareholdc s were present. The report submitted showed that 930 shares were taken up during the past year, making in all 2,318. The directors recommended a bonus of 10 per cent, on the balance standing to the credit of participating shareholders. The amount originally invested was L 10,300, reduced at the present date to L 9,190 7s, and was spread over fifty-five properties. The balance shewed that the subscriptions for the year amounted to L 5.355 11s 7d; pre-payments, Ll7O 4s; fines, LSS ISs ; entrance and transfer fees, LI IS 17s Jod ; interest, L 528 9s 3d; premiums, L 27 10s ; profit and loss, L 3 17s lOd ; withdrawal fees, L 25 15s ; debentures, L 3337 15s 9d ; sundry small debts, L2 18s fid, making a total amount of receipts and indebtedness of L 9,629 Ifis 11. The advances were on the terminable principle, LS,fi9o 7s. on the auction principle L 948 13s lOd, on which payments had been made amounting to LISI 6s 2d, making the total advances L 9.190 7s; the charges, salaries, and interest amounted to L 229 6s 7d ; L 94 ISs 8d were retained on suspense account; and there was a balance due to the Bank of New Zealand, of LI 15 4s Bd. The retiring directors (Messrs A. F. Anderson, W. D. Sutherland, and D. M‘Donald) were re-elcoted, and Mr D. S. Currie reelected auditor. The Chairman, referring to the affairs of the society, congratulated the shareholders on the great success which had attended its operations, and urged tiro desirability of their endeavouring to extend still further its operations and consequent usefulness.
