The amount of revenue received at the Cus-tom-house on goods cleared for consumption to-day, was £559 9s 3d. The market in milling wheat has become very bare; buyers are to be found for good •samples at 5s ; for second-class lots there is Httle inquiry. Oats are dull; milling qualities are quoted at 2s 2d, but at this figure there are not extensive purchasers ; feeding •sorts are in fair demand for shipping at Is IGd to 2s. Malting barley is wanted at 3s 6d to 4s, there being but little available; damaged parcels are scarcely saleable at Is 6d to Is 9d. Flour meets with a first-rate town sale, at Ll3 for approved brands. The orders from northern provinces are also increasing, and the Otago brands are generally well liked. Trade lots are firm at LI 3, and we do not think that, owing to the lightness of stocks, a less rate would be taken for parcels. Oatmeal is quiet at Ll3 10s. Pearl barley is at LI7 10s. Bran is very scarce, ■ but has not improved in value, L2lss. Pollard is wanted at L 3 15s. Hay, L 4 Ids chaff, L 3 15s; straw, 1.2 os; potatoes (new), LB. A. Mercer reports for the week ending Jan. 6.—Retail prices only : Fresh butter, in \ and lib prints, for first quality, 7d to 8d ; second quality, Cd to 7d per lb ; fresh butter, in lumps, fid per lb ; powdered and salt butter, 7d pe: lb. Butter is very plentiful, great quantities coining in every week, and the principal retailers are salting down. No enquiry after salt butter in kegs, and several parcels well got up have been shipped to try the home market; several farmers are also sending home their season’s stock. There is no improvement in the cheese market, and the stock of last season is still very heavy—for the best quality, Cd to 8d per lb, second quality 4d to fid. Colonial hams, Is per lb. Side and rolled bacon, good quality, lOd per lb. English Viama and bacon almost unsaleable, as well as English cheese. Eggs are very plentiful, and retailing at lOd to Is per dozen.
