CANTERBURY v. CITIZENS.

The Canterbury team having accepted a challenge to play eighteen of the Citizens, with Hendley, the match came off on the Dunedin ground to-day. Play commenced at 1 p in., Canterbury taking the field. The wickets began to fall very quickly, no less than six wickets having succumbed for a dozen runs. Geddes and Coxhcad getting together, played very carefully, the latter’s score including a four for a splendid drive over Souter’s head. With the fall of Coxhead’s wicket an adjournment took place for lunch, and on resuming Geddes bit up the first hall he got from Pierce, being caught by Fowler at longatop. The remainder of the innings was only remarkable for the quick despatch of the batsmen, and a splendid catch at leg made by Ollivier. Canterbury then went in, and at 4.30 the game stood : Citizens’.
