Ihe following are the results of the several races : • Whaleboat Race.—Grass’s Clio beat the Wellington Club’s boat. A protest by the latter was disallowed. Amateur Whaleboat Race. — Die Wellington Club’s boat boat the Nelson boats by half a mile. A protest was entered against the winner, hue was disallowed. The Wellington boats withdrew from the other races. Charleston, December 27th. SID persons were present at the races ycst-nlay, which resulted as follows : Trial Stakes.—Task, 1 ; Gertrude, 2. Colonel Fielding, on behalf of the Emigrant and Colonists Aid Corporation, has purchased 100,01)0 acres of laud at Manawatu. The purchasers are bound to introduce and settle 2000 immigrants within seven years. The negociations with Messrs Brogdcn are in a forward state. The Picton and Blenheim line will be immediately commenced, and the surveys of other lines will be pushed on as soon as possible. Mr Vogel, with Messrs Brogden and Webb and Colonel Fielding, left last night by the Luna for Auckland. The Goldfields Water Supply Management has not been found practicable by commission. Mr Haugliton is appointed under Secretary of the Public Works and Goldfields Department. He will resign his seat, and i-> expected to visit Otago in January.
