The competitions by the Naval Brigade for places at the firing for Colonial repr. • s-ntatives were brought to a close to-day. The first competition, which was at rangi s of 400, fiOO, and GOO yards, 7 shots at each, took place on the 20th, when the day was fine; to-day’s competition was at the same ranges with tea sh r -s at (each, there being a [strong wind from the right and right front. '1 he result of the competitions is that Lieut, Smith, P.O. Croagh, Gunners Grainger, Patrick, and Duckworth, are company ro presentatives:—
The final competition of the Oamaru company took place on Frida}' last, under the superintendence of Major Atkinson, The gross totals were Capt. Steward 52 Vol. C. Ross 51 Vol. E. L. Rule 50 Vol. Murphy 39 Cop. Baudinet 39 Vol. E. Bennett ... 20 Vol. Murphy’s last shot being a bull’s eye, as against Corp. Baudinet’s miss, the first four are entitled to compete in the shooting for representatives at the Colonial firing.
