To the Editor of the Evcnhnj Star. y IB) —Permit mo through the columns of your valuable paper to draw the attention of the proper authorities to the unfair system of allowing their regular daymen to do the work of tradesmen whilst there are good workmen, who depend upon such works, walking the streets idle. Sir, my object in troubling you is to cause these particular works to he tendered for. The works I allude to are the relaying of the kerbing, channelling, crossings, &c. I feel certain that the Corporation will, by tendering for these works for a length of time, get them done much cheaper than Corporation daymen can do them. Now, sir, the proper way of testing the question would he to allow these regular daymen to resign their billets, and eompete with others of the same craft, who have to compete for every little job they do, and are admirers of good healthy competition.
