Mr Haughton will be appointed Commissioner to carry out the arrangements for water supply to the goldfields, and superintend the expenditure of the subsidies under the Act granted to the Middle Island. Agents under his instructions will act In Wesland and Nelson. His head-quarters will be in Dunedin. His appointment is entirely honorary. Regulations for applications for the subsidy will appear in the next Gazette.
