The p.s. Sams n having undergone examination, was this morning taken out of tbc floating dock. The s.s, Taranaki, due this evening from Northern Ports, will he placed in the floating dock shortly after arrival for cleaning and painting. Referring to the Tararua being commanded on her last trip by Captain John M‘Lcan, the Oreymouth Ecaihuj Star savs ; —“ A year ago Captain M ‘Lean ceased to be in regular command of any of Messrs VCMeckan and Blackwood’s boats in the New Zealand trade, and on this occasion he only made the trip in consefpicnce of the sudden illness of Capt. Hagley. He was able to do so as his own vessel, the Aldinga, is now in the hands of the boilermaker and shipcarpenter, undergoing extensive repairs and alterations, the alterations including a powerful new boiler, now decks of kauri gum, and other improvements calculated to make her quite a new ship. Another vessel belonging to the same company, the Albion, is being re-fitted for the New Zealand trade, and she will probably make the first of her intended trips to Hokitika, Creymouth, and Manukua, under command of Capt. M'Lean. Since she traded in these waters the Albion has been fitted with a hurricane deck, and has received other alterations which should make her a more favorite boat with passengers than she was when owned and sailed by the Otago Stuatri Shipping Company.”
