WHO GETS THE MONEY?
To the Editor, Sir, —Can you, or any other party concerned, inform wo why the grass in the
South Recreation Grounds is not put up for sale by public auction, as it was a number of years ago ? On that occasion, to my own knowledge, it drew a handsome sum to the Cor [oration.
I have been told that of late it has become the perquisite of a private individual, who tells the grass and puts the proceeds into his pocket. Cows ara also seen , razing daring the night, the owners of which arc said to pay the private gentleman for the privilege. Now, Sir, if this information be correct, and 1 hope for the honor of all parties that it is not, it is time the matter was looked into. Our Corporation funds will not afford such free g-ants ; and if rhe members of our City Council arc either dishonestly conniving at the affair, or ignorantly letting it escape their attention, it proves that they are the “ wrong men in the wrong place.” In conclusion, I beg most respectfully to call the attention of Mr Barnes to the matter, as we have at least iu him one honest public servant. I am, &c., William Burks. Kensington, Nov. 25.
