MAYOR’S COURT.

This Day. (Before his Worship the Mayor.) DRUNKENNESS. Elizabeth George was fined 10s, ASSAULT. John H. Hughes, for assaulting Joseph Davis, landlord of the Albion Hotel, Maclaggan street, was fined 20s. LARCENY. Frederick Lloyd w’as charged with having on the 15th August, at Naseby, stolen a gold watch valued at Ll4, the property of one Perry. It appeared from the evidence that at 1.45 p.m. " yesterday the prisoner went to the shop of Mr A. Davies, Princes street, and said he wished to pawn a ’ watch. Mr Davies took the watch produced froni him, and, on looking oyer his list of stolen property found it answered the description of a watch reported to have been stolen. He asked the prisoner where he got the watch ; and the reply he made was that he had bought it from a man named Strong, Mr Davies then remarked that it was a stolen watch, whereupon prisoner exclaimed “ How do you know,” and asked to have it back. Mr Davies then took possession of the watch, and held the prisoner, who wanted to get away, until the arrival of Sergeant Anderaon, who took him into custody, and succeeded, after a good deal of trouble, in conveying him to the watchhouse. On the application of Sub-luspector Thompson, the prisoner was remanded to Naseby.
