At the half-yearly meeting of the Bunk of New Zealand, the balancesheet showed a nett profit on the halfyear of L 45,215 11s lOd. It is intended to pay a dividend at the rate of 10 per cent, per annum, and to give a bonus of 5s a share. Messrs Farmer and Browning are elected directors. At the Caledonian the pumps are working well, and the mine is nearly dry. Mr Lennox reports that the share market is dull, Caledonian, LI 20 ; Thames, L 2 4) Tookey, L2B; Otago, L 3 ; Shotover, 13s Gd. Produce. —Canterbury potatoes, L 3 per ton. The market is glutted. Napier, November 2. The City of Adelaide passed this morning. Wellington, November 3. M'Meckan, Blackwood, and Co.’s steamers will algo call at Port Chalmers, but no mention is made of them calling at the Bluff. Mr Mackay telegraphs to Mr Gillies here that Captain Preece, with his detatchment of armed constabulary, encountered Te Kooti at Horohoro; and that Pieece and five men were killed, Te Kooti escaping with the loss of one man. Government telegrams state there is an unreliable Hauhau report abroad of Te Kooti being in another place on the day the engagement is said to have taken place. The Defence Minister has received a tele gram from Captain Preece, who was then many miles from the scene of the reported engagement.
