A meeting of farmers condemned tlie new Diseased Sheep Dili, and adopted a position against it for presentation to the Assembly. There was a stormy discussion in the Diocesan Synod on the report of the Trust and Endownment Committee. The report was shelved. A motion to permit the use of hymns (ancient and modern) when desired by a church, in place of the New Zealand hymnal, was thrown out by a large mayority. The Alexandra correspondent of the Southern Cross states that messengers from Te Kooti arrived at Tokongo* matu, with letters, stating that Te Kooti was hard pressed, and in great distress, and requesting the King to send men to escort him to Tokongomatu. JLiewi writes to the Government, asking that the pursuit of Te Kooti should be discontinued. The City of Adelaide has arrived from Sydney, to take up the coast service between Southern ports and Sydney, on behalf of the A.S.N. Co. She leaves for the South on the 30th. Late Sydney news corroborates the probable foundering of the vessel the Nevada collided with. The Nevada’s stern was much injured. Arrived. —Alice, barque, from Lyttelton.
