THE MAYOR AND THE WATER WORKS.

To the Editor. gl ß| —l see that our worthy Mayor is still agitating that very vexed question of the Dunedin Water Works Company’s valna-

for 1872, and that he undoing so as he B tated to the directors of tnf^pmpany; Friday in his private capacity, ''hi a citizen, and not “His Worship.” Now this is’ really too absurd ; I am sure every citizen will ■ agree with me that he should be thelast to agitate a public question in his private capacity, and I would just refer your readers to the report of the proceedings of the meeting to which I refer, held at the offices of the company last Friday, and which appeared in your morning contemporary of Saturday last, and they will see whether he acted and spoke as simply Fish, the painter and paperhanger—l beg his pardon, H. S. Fish, Jim., or a? “ His Worship,” “ save the mark,” 1 was very much pleased on reading the report, and I think that gentleman has got some work before him now. I sincerely hope that for the short time he has yet to sit in the civic chair, he now so worthily fills (for which I hope I may be forgiven) that he will give his time and attention a little more to his duties in return for his L4OO per annum, and a little less to unnecessarily annoying a company which I do not hesitate to say deserves well of every right thinking citizen of Dunedin. I trust that he may yet see the error of his ways ; and I was going to add, repent ere it is too late, but that would be no use now.—lam,

Sincere Admirer,
