THE ROMAN CATHOLIC POPULATION OF THE WORLD.
To the Editor. Sir, —In your issue of Saturday evening, you published a letter signed “Batch, ” in which the writer seems to doubt the accuracy of my statistics in reference to the population of the world. Although slightly incorrect, 1 cannot admit that “Balch” has put me right by his statistics, as the mistake I made was that I included, although not intentionally, members of the Greek Church. For the information of “Balch,” I may state that I got my statistics from the census of 1851, which appears pretty fully in Chambers’ Enclycopsedia and other works which may be seen in the reference library of the Athenreum. If Balch will compare those statistics with other censuses which have been taken recently, I think that he will find that lam correct.—l am, &c. C. October 24, 1871-
