Commercial.

The amount of revenue received at the Cus tom-house on goods cleared for consumption to-day, was £479 3s lid.

The News of the World, of September 13, reports The trade with Australia in the past month has been to some extent progressive. The steamers have fair freights, and when the Dacotah shall have been put on the New Zealand and Australian steamship line, and the vessels go through without changing cargo, a considerable increase may he looked for. By the last steamer there were orders for 900 tons of wheat, which can hardly be tilled at present prices, which are 2dols, 70c. per sack of lOOlbs. against 12s lOd in Liverpool. There is difficulty in getting freight for it to Australia. There arrived hy the last steamer 80 tons tallow to the local candle factory ; the high charges for freights being 7dols. 50c. per ton higher than by sail, there will be less to import by steam. There is a large field for the introduction of tallow on this coast. There is now no Australian coal afloat for sale, but the supply of English is large, . „ Mr Inglis sends hy the Tones the following interesting and valuable extract from a private letter dated London, August 5 : “ The value of New Zealand wheat, as compared with Australian, seems not yet to be fairly ascertained. I hear that whilst in this market the latter commands a preference of 2s to Ss, it is otherwise in Liverpool, where the millers turn the tables entirely, and consider New Zealand worth as much more on account of its flouring qualities.
