PARLIAMENT.

(from our own correspondent.) The Government will explain on Tuesday the course they propose to take iu reference to the Brogden contracts. The Public Revenues Bill passed its second reading without division. The Insolvency Bill was read a first time. On the Payment to Provinces Bill being committed, Mr Vogel consented to 150,000 being appropriated to Road Boards, and L 50,000 compensation for reduction of the capitation allowance. On the motion to go into Committee of Ways and Means, Mr Stafford moved a resolution that the aggregate amount of taxation should not be increased. Mr Kelly, member for Taranaki, moved an amendment in favor of a property and income tax, but the resolution was defeated by 40 to 22, and the amendment negatived on the voices. The debate was very bitteron the part of the Opposition. The House went into committee and passed the three first items of the new stamp duties, after which, progress was reported and leave obtained to sit again on Tuesday, Mr Stafford’s resolution was of course merely a political move, and its rejection iu no way compromised the House against economy.
