PARLIAMENT.
(FROM OUR OWN" CORRESPONDENT.) Wellington, Oct. 10. Mr Stafford pressed for a divirion against Ministers upon reporting the resolution for bringing in the Public Revenues Bill, and was defeated by 44 to 25. Oct. 20. The Defence estimates passed without reduction. There was a six hours’ debate over the vote for Volunteers, on which Mr Bathgate spoke well. On the resumption of the debate on Mr Wood’s proposal for the payment of LIOS to members for the session, Mr Mervyn moved an amendment that L3OO a-year be paid. After three hours discussion, the whole question was referred to a select committee. The Legislative Council have passed the University Bill, as agreed to by the joint committee of both Houses, with the exception of the sec'ion fixing the curriculum in affiliated institutions, which was struck out by a large majority. The minority consisted of Otago members. It is rumored that Mr Brogden proposes to undertake the construction of large mining works in the Colony. The Insolvency Bill passed through committee in the Legislative Council. The Government express themselves anxious that it should pass this session.
