MAYOR’S COURT.
This Day. (Before his Worship the Mayor.) drunkenness. Thomas Wilson was fined ss, and John Williams IDs. The adjourned case against Isabella Patrick was proceeded with; Mr Edward Cook appearing for the accused. The evidence of the arresting constable (Turnbull), that he found her drunk on Saturday, was corroborated by two men who saw her close to the spot where she was arrested, and shortly before that occurrence. Her condition was also testified to by i.he watchhouse-keeper and Sergeant O’Keefe. For the defence it had been intended to call witnesses, but they did not appear. The accused adhered to her assertion that she had fallen down in a tit. His Worship said lie had not the slightesc doubt that the accused was in a state of intoxication when she was arrested; the evidence on that point had been unnecessarily clear. He would, however, dismiss the charge, on the clear understanding that he considered it proved. TRESPASS, Eliza Haig was charged with trespassing on the premises of Mr M'Keay, solicitor, Russell street. It appealed from the evidence that the personer had. gone to Mr M'Keay’s in a state of intoxication, and demanded her daughter, who is employed there, and on being ordered away refused to leave. She was fined 40s, with tho alternative of a week’s imprisonment, which she accepted. _____
