(/•' ■om viir own Correspondent.) Wellington, September 13. The Financial Statement is generally approved of, except by Auckland and Otago ultra-Provincialists. The discussion on it takes place on Tuesday. An extension of railway lines in Otago is proposed. The Government intend reducing the price for the transmission of money order telegrams, Reid aud “tail” are disgusted with the result of the Roslyn election. In the House of representatives yesterday there was an animated debate on the proposal to reduce the gold duty sixpence an ounce annually. It was negatived by 45 to 20. A motion for its immediate reduction to one shilling an ounce was negatived by 52 to 14. A Committee was appointed to consider the desirability of establishing a Central Lunatic Asylum for the Colony. Mr Macandrew is to propose his resolutions to-day. A new Gold Fields Bill has been ini reduced. The Thames Goldfields will be dealt with by a separate statute. September 14.

The Dunedin Waterworks Company’s Bill has been favorably reported on by the Private Petitions Committee ; and its second reading has been fixed for Tuesday.
