MR. RONALD REID’S CHARITABLE ELECTION COMMITTEE.
To the, Editor. Sir, — To say the least, Mr Murray has received most shabby and unfair treatment at the hands of the above committee ; and that upon their own showing, at the recent hearing before the Resident Magistrate, employment was proved by the secretary, but Mr Sievwright and his legal adviser denied that the secretary was authorise! to employ him. Why, therefore, did the Committee accept of Mr Murray's services, and the chairman Mr Sievwright give him directions and orders in his works ? The attempt of Mr Stout to import into the evidence, imparting to Mr Sievwright the use of the word charity, upon Mr Murray receiving from that gentleman the paltry sura of LI on account of his just claim of L 23 10s. cannot be called other than a most insulting evasion. The whole case evinces the propriety of more equity and less law. 1 am, &e. An Elector.
