The Geelong proceeded to the Hoads last evening to tow in the ship Gamecock ; but, Owing to the lateness of the lit,nr, was unable to bring her to Port. She was brought <0 a safe anchorage, and will be towed up when the gale moderates. The s s. Taranaki left Onehttnga wharf at 10a,m. 17th August', was detained inside the Manakau bar, through stress of weather till niton the 18th ; anchored off Taranaki at daylight on the 4th, sailed at 9 a.m. same day, arrived at Nelson at midnight, sailed 11 a.m. on the 20th ; arrived at Picton at 7 pm. the same day, and sailed at 4 a.m. ; arrived at Wellington at no n on the 21st, sailed at 3 p.m. on the 22nd ; arrived at Lyttelton at 8.30 a.m. on the 23rd, sailed at 4 i> ni. the same day, and arrived at Port Chalmers at 2 p.m. on the 24tb, having experienced fine weather and smooth water till 6 a.m. this morning, thence till arrival Strong S.W. gale.
