Civil Cases. Murray v Sievwright. —-L‘2o, for services rendered by the plaintiff to Mr Reid’s Elec tion Committee, of which the defendant was chairman. Mr S out for the defendant. The plaintiff said that a", the eleotio i for Super : intendent, he was engaged by A. M'Leod, Secretary to Mr Reid’s Committo ■ to. act as clerk aid corrcs. oudeir, at the rate of 10s a day. The defen lant, as chairman, constantly gave orders t ■ him. He worked 47 days, ami received on account LI After the e'ection was over he applied to the defendant for some mon -y, and he gave him LI, saying it was a loan, as there was no m mey coming in. A. M‘Lend engaged the pla'ntiff as cle-k ta Mr Reid’s C •mmittce, but did not say he had arranged with the Committee, and had no idea th-y would repud ate the claim. He did not name any sum per day, nor did he know that the plaintiff received orders from Mr Sievwright. Ho did mention the engagement to the committee Hii Worship thought there was no evidence against the defendant, the only person who might be liable was Mr Al'Leod, The plaintiff was nonsuited. ■ _ Duncan v. Walker.—l.lo. Judgment by default for the plaintiff, with cost* for the amount. Arthur v. Solomon, —LI 17s, This was a claim by a tradesman at Lawrence for goods supplied to a miner, and the evidence being that of the defendant only, may be considered ex parte. The defendant denied hj iving given authority to anyone to supply the goods, and repudiated all liability with regard to the debt
