Wellington, August 18 The following Taurauga telegrams has just been received : The report that To Kooti has been reinforced by lilty Uriweras is authorised ( but discredited here. It has been considered necessary to strengthen the post at Whalcataue by five constabulary from here and five from Opotiki. Captain Simpson, just in from Maketu, reports all quiet there, Te Kooti's commissariat is miserable, and he is shifting from his camp to obtain food. It is also reported at Wain that he is approaching Tauranga, but it is not known in which direction. The Captain has just seen Te Hira, an Arawa chief, of Te Ngaeoratorua, who says that there will be fighting shortly. The Natives are working splendidly beyond Rotorua.
Auckland, August 16. James Leonard, of Rangariri, has been committed lor trial for arson. A Native woman has been tomahawked at Ohinemuii. The Provincial Executive have prepared a scheme in compliance with Mr Gisborne’s . i culavs—the proposed works to cost L 1,000,000. The share market is dull. Caledonians, LIBO ; Alburnias, L i 10s.
