He iz one ov the luxuries of civilizashun. The cockroaoh iz born on the fust ov May, and the fust ov November semi-annually, and iz reddy for use in 15 days from date. They are born four from each egg, and consequently they are all twins ; there iz no such thing in the annals of nature az a single cockroach. Their food seams to consist, not so much ov what they eat as what they kan git into, and often finding them ded in the soup in mi boardinghouse, 1 have cum tew the painful eonclushon that the cockroach kau’t swim, but that he kan fioat for a !■ ng time. Emigration from Ireland. The Irish Registrar-General gives the following account of the 75 000 emigrants who left the Irish ports in 1870 : —4d per cart, were under five years old ; 7 5 per cent, were live, but under 15 ; 70 per cent, were 15, hut under 85 ; 7'7 per cent, were 35, but under 45 ; 2 6 per cent, were 45, but under 55; Id percent, were 55 and upwards; the ages of I per cent, arc not specified. The collection of these returns at the several Irish ports was commenced on May 1, 1851, and between that time and the end of 1870, 2,087,324 - emigrants left Ireland, or 2,013,253, after deducting persons belonging to other countries than Ireland. Of this number, 883,125 were from Leinster, 730,472 from Mm ster, 538,249 from_ Ulster, 250,170 from -Connaught, the ' province of 105,238 was not ascertained,
