The Mayor presented an address to his Excellency on landing. He was received by a guard of honor (composed of the volunteers) and a large crowd, despite the'unfavorable weather. : The Luna left Auckland on Tuesday. The latest news states that the share market is firm. Caledonians are quoted at LI9B to L2OO ; Thames and Tookey’s at L3B to L4O ; Otagos at L 3 15s. The Nonpareil and Alburnia mines look well. The Caledonian struck good gold in the lower level last week, and obtained 4,406 ounces from general stuff. The Governor sent to the Superintendent of Auckland L2O for the Auckland charities before leaving. The Han Haus are reported to be anxious to re-open the Kawhia to European; traders, A rnnanga is to be held to consider the King’s intentions on the subject. Mr J. W. Walker, of the Thames Scottish volunteers,, has published a challenge to Captain Wales, or any other man in the Colony, to fire a match for LSO ; 10 shots at each range, 200 to 1000 yards. The’ match to be fired at Wellington, Auckland, or Otago. Mr Kennedy, late of Dunedin, has accepted it on behalf of the Otago volunteers, and a deposit of L 25 has been made.
