PORT CHALMERS.

The regular meeting of the Port Chalmers Tam Council was held last evening in the Town HalL All the Councillors were present, except Cr. M'Catllum. Correspondence was read from the engineer and contractors, relative to ,f extras ” in connection with the A j ax-road contract. A letter from Cr. M'Callum was read, resignijg his seat as Councillor for High Ward, —fleipfved, that the resignation be accepted, and fiat the clerk take the necessary steps for advertising an election for Councillor to fill the vacancy thus caused. His Worship the Mayor reported having seen his Honor the Superintendent in conucction with the streets, and that his Honor had promised to attend to the same, and advise the Council thereon. Previous to the meeting adjourning, Mr Miller moved that an address on parchment be prepare.! and presented to Hugh M'Dermid, Esq., conveying to him the thanks of the Council for the very able manner in which (as Mayor of the town) he had carried ou the business daring the past year. The motion was seconded by Mr Clark. Scv ral members referred at some length to the courtesy shown the Council at all times by Mr M-Demid, and also to the great attention paid by him to the business aiiu fcbft town cenerallw The motion was carried nan. con. He trusted that matters during the next year would go on harmoniously, and that at the eud of the year the town would have no occasion to regret having elected Mr Dench as their Mayor, ide thanked the Councillors for the manner in which they had on all occasions supported the dignity of the chair, and for the attention they had given to the requirements of the town. On the motion of Mr Law, a special vote of thanks was accorded to the clerk, Mr 0- L. Asher. The meeting then adjourned,
