On the 24th inst., the Jane Williams, cutler, was capsized in a sudden squall off i able Bay, Lake Wakatip, and it is supposed -has fone down. The Antrim, steainer was; promptly despatched the next iriioriiing at daybreak, and cruised about- for some hours, but did not succeed iu falling in with the. water-logged .vessel. It--is generally thought she will be recovered the first calm day. The Jane Williams was valued at’L6oo ; L3OO had just been’expended npon-htfrriii repairs and improvements, the present being only her -secondtrip since they were effected. Messrs Williams and Archer, the owners of the Jane Williams, purpose building a steamer ; experience proves that steam; vessels are the beat adapted for the navigation of Lake Wakatip. The Chinese passengers per Jean Sands ■wore conveyed to Dunedin this afternoon. One of the passengers died suddenly at one ’o’clock this morning. The ship was visited in the forenoon by the health authorities to ascertain the cause.of the man’s death, and an inquest Avill probably bo held this evening. ’
