F Sir, —“Pro Bono Publico” in his last letter ou the much-vexed question of the City Base Line attacks Mr. Gil its in no measured terras, and accuses him of a mis urint The nature of this man advantage may perhaps, be better seen by comparing “Fro Bono Fublico’s ’ assertion with report of the City Surveyor as it appeared in your issue of the Bth iiist. “i ro Bono Publico says It mil enable the City Surveyor to fix not only the boundaries but also the levels of property. The City Surveyor says in reply to Mr Gillies’ letter to the Council, says, “Ist. .his survey is not to fix the boundaries of pro Pro Bono Publico” will attempt accept this as an answer to his accusation, and will have the candour “to own that he has taken a wrong view of the subject. If he. or any one else, is anxious to get at the truth in this matter, I believe it would not be difficult to get a perusal of Mr Gillies s original letter to the City Council, where they will find the true question fully disCU S high time for the correspondence on this subject to be dropped, as “ ) ro Bono Publico” appears now to be as wise as he was at the beginning of the controversy.—l am Sir, yours 4c,, Thmoouk
