Queenstown, July 22.
Great public spirit was evinced in the nomination for Councillors. Everything passed off pleasantly and with eclat. The candidates for North Ward are—Betts, M'Conochie, and Huff; for South Ward—Warren, Surman, and Powell ; for Lake Ward—Campbell, G. B. Barton, and M‘Larn. The Mayoral election passed off most happily. Both parties fraternised afterwards.
Mining operations are almost suspended. Wellington, July 22. ,£3O worth of additional property was found concealed about the mill from the ruins of the Wangaehu Hotel, which was destroyed by fire three days ago. The police and natives are making a thorough search in the neighborhood. Jenkins, proprietor of the hotel, is in custody. Port Chalmers. The Otago, from Liverpool, with a general cargo of merchandise, was signalled at the Heads this morning ; as also the barque Bengal, from Newcastle, coal laden. Shortly after her arrival the signal for a tug was made, and the Geelong proceeded to the Heads.
