It is stated by settlers in the vicinity of the Brisbane ranges, Queensland, that deer turned out there have so considerably increased that they are becoming quite a nuisance to agriculturists. They eeem to be particularly partial to potatoes and mangolds. The astounding information is conveyed to us by a Burmese paper that a young white elephant, recently captured, “is being suckled by women, who are forced by the Mandalay authorities to perform this maternal office to the animal, whilst their own children arc given away to other women to nurse.”
