The last quotations from Australia have hot tended to brighten the dulness which has pervaded our market in breadstuffs for the last week or so. Although it is evident that we shall be a good way short of the required supply of wheat before next harvest, purchasers do not appear to be so confident at present as they were about a month ago We do not for a moment anticipate the prices becoming easier, but expect that for the next month or two there will be little inclination to speculate. Good milling wheat is gelling at 5s 9d. Transactions have been light: in fact, there have been only a few small lots of from 500 to 800 bushels each offering, and these have generally been taken up at the above rate. Sales of second class samples have been made at 5s and 5s 3d. Oats are without change. Milling parcels, if clear and regular, are worth 2s 4d to 2s sd. Good feeding, 2s 3d; discolored, unsaleable. Barley, for malting, may be quoted at 4s ; feeding, 2s 3d. Wheat, 5s 9d. Oats, 2s 3d to 2s 5d.. Barley, 2s 3d to 4s. Flour, Lls. Pollard and bran, L 4 10s. Oatmeal, Ll4 10s. Pearl barley, L2O. Hay, L 4 10s. Chaff, L 4 10s. Straw, L2 10s. Potatoes, L 3, A Mercer reports fresh butter in lumps and prints, Is 3d to Is 4d. Salt butter in kegs, but little demand and prices low, 8d to 9d. Bacon, roll and side, lOd; hams, colonial, Is; English, Is 4d to Is 6d. Cheese, colonial, 8d to 9d; English Is 4d Eggs, scarce, at 2s.
