Piukcess Theathe.—There will be a further change in the programme this evening ; “ A .Regular Fix ” and “ More Blunders than One” takfng the place of the “Area Bello” and the “Alarming Sacrifice.” The burlesque of “Cinderelllft” will bo repeated.
Municipal.— lnvercargill has been created a municipality, and the election for Mayor is fixed by proclamation in the for August 26.
Astronomical; Simultaneous observations of eleven stars were taken, on the night of the 7th inst,, at the observatory at the Hutt, and at that at Caver ham, with a view to determine the absolute longitude of Wellington and Dunedin. Tnedntance between the cities is exactly J2l miles. The night was in every way most favorable for observations.
Entertainment. — Mr R. P. Whitworth has engaged the Masonic Hall for to-morrow evening, on which occasion will be performed, for the first time in Dunedin, “ Catching a Conspirator.” It will be in the remembrance of theatre-goers, that this highly successful little piece was written by Mr Whitworth for the Theatre Royal, Melbourne, where it had a run unprecedented in the annals of the Colonial stage ; touching as it did the well-known idiosyncrasies of Mr Barry Sullivan, the tragedian. Mr Whitworth will be assisted by some wellknown amateurs, and, in addition to the farce, there will be some excell'nt comic singing. Wc hope there will be a full house.
Mu : Thonernan’s general committee will meet at Carroll’s Hibernian Hotel this (Thursday) evening at 8 o’clock. A public installation of the officers, of the Loyal Alexandra Lodge, A.1.0.0.F., will take place at Wain’s Old Masonic Hall to morrow (Friday) at 8 p.m. Members and friends are cordially invited.
Mr Henry Clapcott’s readings takeplace this evening at the Masonic Hall, the entertainment is to be interspersed with songs, comic aud instrumental by old Dunedin favorites, Messrs Westrop and Towsey. Mons. Fleury and his band promise good music during the <-vening.
