THE BOARD OF HEALTH.
To the Editor. g IRi _As good a proof as we could have of the utter uselessness and inaptitude of the present Provincial Council, is their totals neglecting to deal with the question of the health of the Province. Had Mr Reid onlyimagined that it was possible that a neighbor’s cow was suffering frorn plcuro-pneu-monia, or had the scab made its appearance among the tiocks in the neighborhood of one of the representatives of the pastoral interest, there can be no doubt that steps would immediately have been taken to get rid of the disease in question. The Provincial Council has been sitting now for more than five weeks, and with tin exception of two or three questions which have been asked by members who seem to have had some faint perception of the fact that it might possibly be their duty, as representatives of the Province, to emleavo. to prevent as far as might he the s icritic j of valuable lives, not a thing has been done by the Council with a view either to stamp oiu the scarlet fever at present in the Province, or to prevent its being introduced by carelessness for the future. I am, &c., A Hater oe Humbugs. Dunedin, July S.
