MAYOR’S COURT.
Yesterday. (Before his Worship the Mayor and the Hon. Dr. Buchanan, J.P.) THE PRINCES STREET FIRE. B. J. Boyes had examined the goods found in Goldammer’s possession. He had estimated their value when landed here at L3(il 16s 8d ; and in England at L 289 9s 4d. In cross-examination, it was elicited from the witness that, in making his valuation, the police furnished him with the valuation made by Mr. Hart. Mr Barton condemned the action of the police in this respect as being highly improper ; in which view the, Mayor coincided. Ann Wright gave evidence similar to that given by her at the inquest. The only new, feature was that she rather believed that the first voice giving the alarm of fire came from inside Reichelt’s shop. Miss Cane, keeper of the registry office, adjacent to Reichelt’s; Jas, Mitchell, watchman on the bell tower; Jas. F. Miller, who alleged he was the first person to give the alarm of fire ; Constable Baxter and Sergt. James Baxter were examined, but their evidence was a repetition of that given before the Coroner.
